2012 Meeting Logo

Dear Colleagues:

The 13th Annual Call for Abstracts for The American Society of Breast Surgeons is now closed. The meeting will be held May 2 - May 6, 2012, in Phoenix, Arizona. Authors will be be notified of acceptance by email in January. Keep in mind that all authors whose abstracts are accepted as oral presentations will be required to provide the Society with a manuscript suitable for possible publication in Annals of Surgical Oncology. (Your manuscript will be your ticket to the podium and must be submitted prior to your presentation.)  Authors whose abstracts are accepted for poster presentation will be invited to submit a manuscript for possible publication. In addition, the top poster presenters will be invited to participate in a discussion forum that will be held during the meeting.

Special Awards for Breast Fellows and Residents

Oral Presentations by a breast fellow or resident will be considered for the following awards:

  • The George Peters Award for the best paper presented by a breast fellow. The award was established by the Society to honor Dr. George N. Peters, who was instrumental in bringing together the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, The American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Disease, and the Society of Surgical Oncology to develop educational objectives for breast fellowships. The educational objectives were first used to award Komen Interdisciplinary Breast Fellowships. Subsequently the curriculum was used for the breast fellowship credentialing process that has led to the development of a nationwide matching program for breast fellowships.
  • The Outstanding Scientific Presentation Award for the best paper presented by a resident or a fellow.

Both content, as well as presentation, will be considered in judging. A prize of $1,000 will be granted to winner of the George Peters Award and $500 to the winner of the Outstanding Scientific Presentation Award—both of which are supported by The American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation.

Promoting Research, Improving Standards of Practice

The scientific portion of our program plays a vital role in helping the Society further our mission of promoting research and improving standards of practice in the treatment of breast disease. Therefore, I encourage you to take this opportunity to submit an abstract.

I look forward to seeing you in Phoenix.

Sincerely,
