In an effort to standardize the breast
fellowship training curriculum and make the application
and acceptance
process more structured, the American
Society of Breast Surgeons, in collaboration with Society
of Surgical Oncology,
and the American
Society of Breast Disease, has developed comprehensive
guidelines for training breast fellows.
To date, 27 standing breast training programs
have confirmed that they meet the criteria outlined in
the guidelines
and have agreed to be inspected within the next three years.
Once a program successfully passes an inspection, it will
be considered an official training program.
