Mastery of Breast Surgery Program

The Mastery of Breast Surgery Program is a voluntary quality improvement initiative designed to help surgeons document their clinical performance of breast procedures, as well as their care of breast cancer patients and patients at risk for breast cancer. Participants will be expected to participate in continuous data collection using the program modules that best meet their reporting needs.

Program Modules

Levels of Participation

Participants may select their level of participation and choose which of the program's modules they want to use depending on their desired reporting needs. The program is very flexible and user friendly.  The levels of participation and the modules used can be changed by the user at any time.

Risk Assessment
  • Standard Level
    Includes access to the Gail, Tamoxifen Benefit, Claus and Myriad Mutation Prevalence Models
Percutaneous Procedures
  • Standard Level
    Includes procedure, post-procedure and follow up information.
  • Synoptic Reporting Level
    Includes all data fields in the standard level and adds the ability to create, save and/or print a summary report.
Surgery
  • Quality Measures Only Level
    For participants who wish to track quality measures and not enter additional information.
  • Standard Level
    Includes quality measures and adds data fields for the location of the procedure, indications and pathology. Formats data for downloading and submission to the American Board of Surgery for MOC.
  • Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) Level (formerly PQRI)
    Includes all data fields contained in the Standard level plus required quality measures for data submission to PQRS.
Cancer
  • Quality Measures Only Level
    Includes quality measures with minimal clinical information.
  • Standard Level
    Includes extensive cancer information with a staging module
  • Extended Level
    Includes components of the Standard Level plus Quality Measures Only Level reporting

Benefits of Participation

  • Recognized by the American Board of Surgery as fulfilling the requirements for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part 4 (ongoing participation in a national, regional or local surgical outcomes database or quality assessment program.)
  • The Society's Mastery Program is a qualified 2012 Physician Quality Reporting System registry. The Mastery Program was a Qualified 2011 PQRS Registry for the Peri-operative Measures Group. Eligible participants will receive incentive payments of .5 percent of the total estimate allowed charges for covered professional services under Medicare Part B in 2012.
