Target Audience:
Breast surgeons and APPs who order genetic testing and provide counselling to their patients on genetic testing results.
Objectives:

At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Address surgeon-specific elements to cover in the pre-testing visit.
  • Communicate with patients the information that can be gained from direct-to-consumer genetic testing.
  • Describe RNA testing and identify the patients that could benefit from this testing.
  • Identify the life-insurance, legal, and privacy issues pertaining to genetic testing.
Description:

This online activity will provide an understanding of “beyond the basics” of cancer genetics essential for contemporary breast surgery practice, particularly in addressing pre-testing concerns. The activity is designed to support Breast Surgeons and APPs continued access and involvement in the genetic testing process and offer practitioners an additional CME opportunity, as encouraged by the NAPBC.
