ASBrS Call for Committee Volunteers

The Society is seeking volunteers for the following committees. The term for each vacancy is a two-year term and a total of up to 3 terms may be served unless it is stated otherwise. The term will start immediately following the annual meeting. If you would like to apply for any of these opportunities, please complete an application (please see the link below) and submit it with a copy of your curriculum vitae. The application and curriculum vitae must be submitted as a SINGLE PDF DOCUMENT to Mara Lang, membership@breastsurgeons.org. The closing date to apply for the Membership Committee and the Young Surgeons Working Group is December 14, 2018. The closing date to apply for the Practice Advocacy Committee is January 1, 2019.

Preference will be given to those not already sitting on a committee. All volunteers must be members in good standing.

PRACTICE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE (new!)
Number of vacancies:  8 (Active or Associate member)
Closing Date: January 1, 2019

The American Society of Breast Surgeons has formed a new Practice Advocacy Committee to serve members seeking a sounding board and advocacy in dealing with the daily issues of being a doctor.

Committee members will oversee our online practice advocacy forum, communicate directly with fellow members and advocate for them as needed.  Committee members will work directly with the Coding and Reimbursement Working Group, the Legislative Committee and the Board of Directors to address the needs of members and find solutions for day-to-day practice issues.

We are seeking two or three members from each of the following areas: 

  • physician-owned private practice (urban and/or suburban)
  • rural-based private practice
  • university/academic practice
  • hospital-employed practice

This committee will meet as questions arise by email and teleconference.  There will be an in-person meeting at the annual meeting.  Committee members must be willing to participate in the online forum when it is launched around the time of the annual meeting in spring 2019. 

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Number of vacancies: 1 (Active or Associate member)
Closing Date: December 14, 2018

Responsibilities of the Membership Committee include reviewing applications for membership in the organization, increasing awareness of the Society, surveying members as needed and recommendation of changes to the bylaws as appropriate in regard to membership. This committee meets approximately 1-2 times per year by teleconference.

YOUNG SURGEONS WORKING GROUP
Number of vacancies: 3 (Active or Associate members*), 1 (Candidate in a Fellowship Program*)
Closing Date: December 14, 2018

The purpose of the Young Surgeons Working Group is to provide a forum for issues of surgeons who are early in practice/young in age, identify future leaders in the society and ensure representation of early career viewpoints in the larger ASBrS society. This committee meets approximately 2-3 times per year by teleconference and once in person at the ASBrS annual meeting.
Special Eligibility Requirements: In first 6 years of practice or under the age of 40.

*Active or Associate Position-The term for this position is one two-year term.

*Candidate Position-The term for this position will be effective immediately and will end after the   annual meeting. At that time the member will serve one two-year term.
