Oncoplastic Certification FAQ
- Certification by the American Board of Surgery, American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (with recognized breast surgical fellowship) or evidence of international equivalent.
- A documented appropriate level of training and minimum of 1-year experience in the performance of oncoplastic procedures, including Crescent and Donut Mastopexy.
- A minimum annual procedure volume of 20 breast oncoplastic procedures.
- Completion of 20 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credits™ in oncoplastic surgery.
- Crescent Mastopexy - No more than 2
- Donut Mastopexy - Minimum of 3
- Three of the 5 cases must include clinical photography of 6 months or greater from time of the oncoplastic procedure
Yes, you may take the exam up to 2 years prior to submitting your clinical case application.
Yes, you may submit your application up to 2 years prior to taking the exam.
No, you do not need to submit documentation of the required 20 Level 1 oncoplastic procedures; however, keep in mind that you should maintain records for your own reference. The application includes an attestation to the fact that you independently performed no fewer than 20 oncoplastic surgeries within the last 12 months.
Five oncoplastic cases must be submitted for review within the online application
A minimum of 20 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credits™ in pncoplastic surgery is required for certification. Of these, a minimum of 10 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credits™ must be obtained during the 18 months prior to submission of the application. You must document successful completion of no less than 2 full-day introductory oncoplastic courses that include a didactic portion as well as a "hands-on" portion demonstrating oncoplastic surgical procedures.
Yes, the CME is considered a prerequisite and documentation of the required CME credit hours is a required element of your application submission.

The Oncoplastic certification exam tests for knowledge of concepts, anatomy, complications, risks and an understanding of referral to plastic surgery. A review of an introductory oncoplastics course is recommended before taking the exam.
