Course Description:
The Breast Fellows Course is the capstone event of the Breast Fellows University curriculum, completing the yearlong educational experience for fellows and residents. It reinforces key surgical techniques, contemporary management strategies, and practical aspects of breast cancer care. The course also highlights essential business-of-medicine topics, helping trainees prepare for successful transitions into independent practice.
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Apply current best practices and technical principles in nipple-sparing mastectomy including patient selection, incision planning, and operative techniques to optimize surgical outcomes.
- Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, tools, and industry innovations relevant to breast cancer surgery through hands-on experience and expert demonstration.
- Implement strategies to enhance professional sustainability and practice management, including navigating challenging clinical scenarios, financial planning, and medicolegal preparedness.
Criteria for Participation:
Participation in this course is reserved for fellows participating in a year-long multidisciplinary breast surgery fellowship program and residents entering or interested in a breast fellowship. Fellows who are registered for the Annual Meeting's General Session may attend this course free of charge. Pre-registration is required. All nonmember fellows or residents must provide a letter from their program director verifying their status to register for this course.
