Course Description:

This course is designed to provide you with the resources and knowledge necessary to recognize patients eligible for genetic testing and to perform pre- and post-test. Additionally, this course will provide short-term and long-term management strategies for high-risk breast lesions. Participants will review current screening and surveillance recommendations, as well as breast cancer risk-reducing approaches for high-risk patients with and without germline genetic mutations.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize high-, moderate-, and low-penetrance germline mutations associated with an increased lifetime breast cancer risk.
  • Be familiar with breast cancer screening and risk-reduction options appropriate in the setting of a hereditary predisposition to breast cancer.
  • Understand proliferative lesions associated with an increased lifetime breast cancer risk.
  • Know how to counsel patients with high-risk proliferative lesions found on core needle biopsy and for future breast cancer screening and risk management.
