Identification and Management of the High-Risk Patient

Wednesday, April 10
8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Course Moderators: Jennifer K. Plichta, MD, MS, FACS; Ashley R. Stuckey, MD, FACOG, FACS
Faculty: Cory A. Donovan, MD; Anita Johnson, MD, FACS; Jennifer K. Plichta, MD, MS, FACS; Barry Rosen, MD, FACS; Jennifer Scalia, MS; Ashley R. Stuckey, MD, FACOG, FACS

Course Description:

Given the prevalence of breast cancer and the shortage of certified cancer genetic counselors, breast surgeons may find themselves leading cancer genetic testing. This course is designed to provide you with all the resources and knowledge necessary to perform appropriate pre and posttest counseling and select and order and interpret cancer genetic testing. Furthermore, we aim to better aid you in post-test discussions and residual familial cancer risk for those not harboring a pathogenic mutation. Finally, we will guide you on counseling patients regarding cancer risk factors beyond genetics, and risk mitigation.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Better understand the array of germline cancer genetic panels and their differences
  • Better understand pre and posttest counseling
  • Better understand assessment of residual cancer risk, including RNA snips, after a non-informative cancer genetic test result
  • Better optimize high risk breast cancer screening strategies
  • Better understand risk reduction strategies

CME Credit Information:

The American Society of Breast Surgeons designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
