The Society offers several options for earning the required CME for both certification and recertification in Breast Ultrasound and Stereotactic Breast Procedures.
Annual Meeting Pre-Meeting Courses
Breast Ultrasound Introductory Course (2016 – 7.5 Credits, 2017 – 7.5 Credits, 2018 – 7.25 Credits)
Advanced Breast Imaging (2015 - 8.25 Credits, 2017 – 7.25 Credits)
Emerging Technologies in Breast Disease Management (2016 - 9 Credits, 2017 – 8.25 Credits)
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Introductory Course* (2015 – 8 Credits, 2016 – 8 Credits, 2017 – 7.25 Credits,2018 – 7.75 Credits )

Annual Meeting General Session
The breast imaging content varies each year. The last several general sessions have included 2 to 3 hours of CME which may be counted toward the certification criteria for both certification programs.-

Mastery of Breast Surgery Program Readings MOC
Reading of online select practice -specific journal articles and successfully answering corresponding questions. Participants are eligible to earn a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credit per article. These articles must include breast ultrasound or imaging content.
Recertification in Breast Ultrasound and Stereotactic - Category 2 Credits
Recertification CME criteria includes the allowance for 5 credits of category 2 CME credits.
The American Medical Association (AMA) defines Category 2 CME as all educational activities not designated for Category 1 that: comply with the AMA definition of CME; comply with the AMA ethical opinions on Gifts to Physicians from Industry and on Ethical Issues in CME (i.e., are not promotional); and a physician finds to be a worthwhile learning experience related to his or her practice.
Examples of such activities include:
- Teaching residents, medical students or other health professionals
- Unstructured online searching and learning (i.e., not Internet PoC)
- Reading authoritative medical literature
- Consultation with peers and medical experts
- Group discussions
- Self-assessment activities
- Medical writing
- Preceptorships
- Research
- Participating in live activities not designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit
