Session Title:
Sentinel Lymph Node Surgery: To SOUND or Not to SOUND?
Date & Time:
November 03, 2026, 7:00 PM–7:45 PM ET
Length:
45 Minutes
CME Deadline:

Target Audience:
Surgeons and other healthcare providers with a special interest in the treatment of breast disease, particularly those with early-stage breast cancer.
Objectives:
At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Understand contemporary data on omission of surgical axillary staging and the potential impact of omission on breast cancer treatment overall.
  • Identify patients where omission of surgical axillary staging may and may not be appropriate.
Description:
Recent randomized trials, including SOUND and INSEMA, have challenged the routine use of sentinel lymph node biopsy in carefully selected patients with clinically node-negative breast cancer. As evidence supporting axillary de-escalation continues to evolve, surgeons are increasingly faced with the question of whether omission of surgical axillary staging should become part of routine clinical practice. This debate-format webinar will review the latest evidence, discuss patient selection, and explore the opportunities and challenges of implementing sentinel lymph node surgery omission in contemporary breast surgical practice.
