Course Description:

This free program is designed for breast surgery fellows participating in a year-long multidisciplinary breast fellowship program, as well as residents entering or interested in participating in a breast fellowship. The lectures will provide supplemental information on a number of relevant topics for those about to begin practice, including genetics, billing and coding, DCIS the nuts and bolts of building a practice, ERAS protocols, an overview of what the ASBrS offers, and salary negotiation information. No CME will be offered.

Criteria for Participation:

The Fellows Course is a special supplemental course designed to address the unique needs of current and prospective breast fellows. Participation in the program is reserved for fellows participating in a year-long multidisciplinary breast surgery fellowship program and residents entering or interested in a breast fellowship. Fellows who are registered for the annual meeting may attend this program free of charge. However, attendees must pre-register for the Fellows Course. All non-member fellows or residents must provide a letter from their program director verifying their status to register for the Fellows Course 2023 and must email registration@breastsurgeons.org to register and attach documentation.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Appropriately recommend genetic testing to patients and incorporate genetic testing into a high-risk program
  • Critically read publications related to breast surgery
  • Understand the critical components of building a practice including billing and coding
  • Enumerate the components of an ERA protocol
  • Manage patients with DCIS
